The book "Mal de Meleda - the Mljet Disease" investigates the rare dermatological disease named after an island located in the vicinity of Dubrovnik. The book attempts to encompass all aspects of this disease, from historical facts and clinical features to the latest genetic research. Even though exceptionally rare, this disease is particularly tied not only to Mljet island and the City of Dubrovnik, but also to the entire Dubrovnik and Croatian academic communities. On the other hand, there are a number of reasons why I have a personal interest in this research. The Mjet disease is connected to the wider regionof where I live and work, to the island on which I had and have opportunities to meet and treat those affected by this disease, and to the numerous scientific and proffesional research activities in which I have participated.
